the irreversible

2010

A time-evolving virtual system is observed while being rewound. By design, this system deliberately violates the law of energy conservation and therefore cannot be a model of the universe in which we exist. Yet it evokes various entities found in this universe—such as the cosmos, atomic nuclei, elementary particles, cells and neurons. Particles that were connected in the initial state are torn apart and move while continuously altering their relationships, making the system as a whole irreversible. However, within the medium of moving images, this reversal becomes possible.
